What is “spiking?" | | | What Is “Spiking?” | | | |  | During the trial burn, known quantities of the test materials are pumped into the hot end of the incinerator in one of two ways: either as a “native” species (something that is already present at a known concentration in the waste fuel); or as an additive that is injected at a carefully controlled rate into the waste fuel or directly into the incinerator.
